JASH Gala 2016 will take place on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at the Omni Hotel and Resorts Galleria Houston. The gathering will celebrate the spirit of kizuna – the solidarity that binds the United States and Japan – and honor an individual who embodies this spirit, Dr. Ritsuko Komaki.
Dr. Komaki, Professor and Associate Director, Thoracic Center, Department of Radiation Oncology, Division of Radiation Oncology, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, grew up in Hiroshima and has dedicated her career to the peaceful use of radiation therapy in the treatment of cancer. JASH will recognize Dr. Komaki for her contributions to the strengthening of the US-Japan bond and her involvement in the founding of MD Anderson’s Proton Therapy Center, which is now entering its 10th year. JASH will also acknowledge Hitachi America, Ltd. for its pioneering role in the development of the PROBEAT proton beam technology utilized at MD Anderson’s Proton Therapy Center, the first of its kind in the world.
