Did you know that Japan celebrates a special holiday on May 5th every year called Children’s Day? While May 5 is set aside for Cinco de Mayo celebrations in Houston, in Japan, the date is a national holiday devoted to children - Kodomo No Hi, or Children’s Day. Join JASH and the Harris County Public Library as we explore the holiday’s traditions, complete with the creation of koinobori carp streamers. Bring the supplies listed below and join us for a fun time online!

Materials for Koinobori Craft:

  • Toilet Paper tubes (2-3)

  • Wrapping Tissue/Wrapping Paper

  • Black and White Paper or Googly Eyes (4-6)

  • Strings

  • Sticks/Chopsticks

  • Glue

  • Scissors

  • Scotch Tape
