IN MEMORIAM: JEANETTE HEARD

It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of Mrs. Jeanette Leaman Heard at the age of 95.

Mrs. Heard was one of the founding members of the Japan-America Society of Houston and served the organization for nearly 30 years in various roles, including Educational Committee Chair, Ladies' Committee Chair, Ikebana Committee Chair, and Bridge Club Chair.  In addition, Mrs. Heard was instrumental in helping countless Japanese women learn more about American culture and customs, as well as English, through the International Learning Experience program that she founded at her church.

In 1988, Mrs. Heard was honored by the Emperor of Japan with the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays for her dedication to promoting Japanese culture and fostering understanding between the citizens of Houston and the citizens of Japan.

A memorial service celebrating Mrs. Heard's life will be held on June 24, 2017, at South Main Baptist Church (4100 Main St., Houston, TX) at 10:00AM.
