New Year’s Greeting 2026
As we welcome 2026, the Year of the Horse, the Japan-America Society of Houston (JASH) is honored to extend our warmest New Year’s greetings to the people of Houston and to our friends and partners throughout the United States and Japan.
In Japanese culture, the horse (馬・uma) is revered as a symbol of strength, speed, sincerity, and forward momentum. Historically seen as a faithful companion and messenger, the horse represents progress achieved through perseverance, trust, and steady effort. These qualities mirror JASH’s enduring mission to build meaningful bridges between Japan and the United States as we look toward a year of exceptional significance.
The year 2026 marks a historic milestone for our nation—the 250th Anniversary of the United States. This once-in-a-generation commemoration will bring large-scale celebrations, historical reflection, and economic opportunity, fueled by tourism, civic pride, and a renewed appreciation for shared democratic values. JASH looks forward to participating in this national moment by highlighting the longstanding friendship between Japan and the United States, and by celebrating America’s story through Japanese-themed cultural programs and exchanges that reflect mutual respect and global partnership.
Against this backdrop, 2026 promises to be a landmark year for cultural exchange in Houston. JASH will continue its signature programs, beginning with our annual Oshōgatsu (New Year) celebration at Levy Park, a family-friendly event that introduces Japanese traditions, performances, and seasonal customs to the broader community. The year will also feature the Houston Regional and Texas State Japanese Language Speech Contests, recognizing students whose dedication to language study strengthens cross-cultural understanding.
In the spring, JASH BASH will return on a new date, bringing together supporters and friends in celebration of shared purpose. Later in the year, Japan Festival will once again transform Hermann Park on September 12–13 into a vibrant showcase of Japanese culture, welcoming thousands of visitors for a weekend of arts, cuisine, and community.
The arts will take center stage in 2026 as Houston welcomes Kinoshita Kabuki on its inaugural tour of the United States, offering a rare opportunity to experience the power and beauty of classical Japanese theater. JASH will also continue strengthening partnerships with community organizations across Houston, from Performing Arts Houston to the Hermann Park Conservancy, expanding opportunities for collaboration and broad public engagement.
In addition, 2026 will shine a spotlight on sports diplomacy, as Houston hosts international events connected to the World Baseball Championship and the FIFA World Cup. These global competitions underscore the unifying power of sport to bring people together across borders, cultures, and languages.
JASH remains deeply committed to nurturing future leaders. Our sister-city relationships will be strengthened through the welcoming of two youth delegations to Houston, including the inaugural cohort of the Chiba Innovation Academy, fostering innovation, cultural literacy, and lasting friendships.
As we move forward in the spirit of the Horse—and during this historic year for the United States—we look ahead to a future shaped by cultural understanding, international friendship, and shared progress. We are grateful to our members, partners, volunteers, and community collaborators for their continued support.

新年のご挨拶 2026年
2026年・午年の新春を迎えるにあたり、ヒューストン日米協会（JASH）は、ヒューストンの皆様、そして米国および日本の友人・パートナーの皆様に、心より新年のご挨拶を申し上げます。
日本文化において、馬（うま）は古くから力強さ、俊敏さ、誠実さ、そして前進する力の象徴として尊ばれてきました。人々を目的地へと導く忠実な伴侶であり、使者でもあった馬は、努力と信頼によって築かれる進歩を体現しています。こうした精神は、日米の架け橋を築いてきたJASHの使命と深く共鳴し、意義深い一年を迎える私たちの指針となっています。
2026年は、アメリカ合衆国建国250周年という歴史的節目の年でもあります。この一世代に一度の記念の年には、全米規模での祝賀行事や歴史的記念事業が展開され、観光や愛国心を通じた経済的な活力も期待されています。JASHは、この国の重要な節目を祝う中で、日米友好の長い歴史に光を当て、日本文化をテーマとした行事や交流を通じて、相互理解と国際的パートナーシップの価値を発信してまいります。
こうした背景のもと、2026年はヒューストンにとって文化交流の節目となる一年となるでしょう。JASHは、年間を通じて代表的なプログラムを継続して実施いたします。年明けは、家族で楽しめる恒例のお正月（Oshōgatsu）イベントをレヴィ・パークで開催し、日本の伝統行事や季節文化を広く紹介します。続いて、ヒューストン地域およびテキサス州日本語スピーチコンテストを開催し、日本語学習に励む学生たちの努力と成果を称えます。
春には、新たな日程でJASH BASHを開催し、支援者や友人の皆さまと交流の場を設けます。そして秋には、9月12日・13日にハーマン・パークで「ジャパン・フェスティバル」を開催し、日本の芸術、食文化、伝統芸能を紹介する活気あふれる週末をお届けします。
2026年は、芸術分野においても特別な年となります。木ノ下歌舞伎（Kinoshita Kabuki）が米国初公演ツアーの一環としてヒューストンを訪問し、伝統的な日本演劇の魅力を披露します。またJASHは、パフォーミング・アーツ・ヒューストンやハーマン・パーク・コンサーバンシーをはじめとする地域団体との連携をさらに強化し、より市民に開かれた文化交流の機会を広げてまいります。
さらに、スポーツを通じた文化交流も2026年の重要なテーマです。ヒューストンでは、ワールド・ベースボール・チャンピオンシップやFIFAワールドカップ関連イベントが開催され、スポーツを通じて国や文化を超えた交流が促進されます。
JASHは次世代育成にも力を注いでいます。姉妹都市交流の一環として、2026年には2つの青少年代表団をヒューストンに迎えます。その中には、千葉イノベーション・アカデミーの記念すべき第一期生も含まれ、教育交流と文化体験を通じて、未来の日米関係を担う若者たちを育みます。
午年の精神と、アメリカ建国250周年という歴史的な年を胸に、JASHは文化理解、国際的友情、そして共に歩む進歩に満ちた未来を見据えています。日頃よりご支援くださる会員、パートナー、ボランティア、地域の皆さまに心より感謝申し上げます。
