IN MEMORIAM: MARI HART (1929-2026)

The Japan-America Society of Houston mourns the passing of former JASH Director Mari Hart, whose years of dedicated service and leadership helped shape the organization during a formative period of its history.

Mari served devotedly on the JASH Board of Directors from 1990 through the early 2000s, contributing her time, energy, and creativity to countless programs and initiatives that strengthened ties between Houston and Japan.

Over the course of her service, Mari held numerous leadership roles, including Vice President of Women’s Activities, Vice President of Special Events, and Vice President of Programs. She was also a longtime Chair of the Ladies’ Holiday Luncheon, guiding the beloved event through multiple successful years with warmth, elegance, and tireless commitment.

Her dedication to JASH eventually led to service on both the Executive Committee and Advisory Committee, reflecting the deep respect and admiration she earned from fellow board members and the broader JASH community.

Mari’s gracious spirit, enthusiasm for cultural exchange, and steadfast support of the Society left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working alongside her. Her contributions helped strengthen the foundation upon which JASH continues to grow today.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones. She will be remembered with gratitude and great affection.
